Type of involvement: Survey and Online Study Session

Plain English Summary: Are you a parent of a 4-6-year-old? Researchers from the SMILE study team are investigating strategies to increase young children’s consumption of vegetables. They need your help! You and your child may be invited to participate in a short, 10-minute online study session where your child will have the opportunity to try raw (uncooked) broccoli. After completing the survey and session, parents will receive a £5 Amazon voucher, and children will receive an online certificate. Additionally, parents will be entered into a prize draw for a £50 Amazon voucher. Where the research will take place: Online

About the project: The SMILE study team is conducting research to explore strategies that can help increase young children’s vegetable intake. This study involves an online session where children aged 4-6 years will participate in simple tasks, including tasting raw broccoli. The aim is to gather insights on effective approaches to encourage vegetable consumption among young children.

Who they are looking for: Parents of children aged 4-6 years.

Eligibility Requirements:
To participate, you must meet the following criteria:

• You have a child aged between 4 and 6 years old (under 60 months).
• You and your child currently live in the United Kingdom.
• Your child is not autistic and does not have severe learning disabilities or a chronic illness that directly influences their dietary requirements and eating habits.
• Your child has no food allergies.
• No household members have a food allergy to fruit or vegetables.
• Your child has not tried raw (uncooked) broccoli before.

What they will ask you to do: Complete an online screening survey and participate in a 10-minute study session where your child will try raw broccoli.

What you will be offered for your time: Parents will receive a £5 Amazon voucher, children will receive an online certificate, and parents will be entered into a prize draw for a £50 Amazon voucher.
